Modern mamas frequently check on their baby’s developmental milestones. Oftentimes, moms get overlooked and forget that they, too, have important milestones to hit! At Mama’s Milestones, we believe it’s time for moms to receive basic return-to-exercise guidance. Mama’s Milestones wants every woman to confidently take their favorite exercise class, knowing that they are helping their pelvic floor, not hurting it! The more women learn about their pelvic floor, the better they can avoid and address issues like incontinence, prolapse, and diastasis.

Our goal is to help moms retrain their pelvic floor and return to exercise safely after having a baby.

What are the Milestones for Mamas?

To start, women do not have to be doomed to pee their pants for the rest of their lives because they’ve had a baby! Or better yet, just because she is a woman!! Incontinence, aka leakage, can be improved and resolved in many cases with conservative management.

  • Milestone: Jump, lift, laugh, and sneeze confidently without leakage

All mamas should understand what could make a pelvic organ prolapse (POP) worse and what we can do to improve it. *Not so fun fact: POP currently affects 1 in 4 women in their 40's and 1 in 3 in their 60's. 

  • Milestone: No longer feeling heaviness after a hard workout

Mamas should be taught the proper exercises to decrease the separation of their abdominals after pregnancy, aka diastasis recti, and learn simple strategies to avoid making it worse.

  • Milestone: Knowing safe alternative exercises to do during the "core" part of your workout!
